I Have a Problem

My husband bought me some new furniture for our 27th anniversary. I am a shabby chic and garden cottage kind of girl. I am not afraid of color. I have had very girly floral furniture and I loved it but alas, it was wearing out. So off to the furniture store we went . . .

Have you been to the furniture store lately? Apparently their favorite color is brown and every varying shade of brown. there was a spot of red and a couple of floral couches that were beautiful but when I sat down and scooted back against the back of the couch my feet could not touch the floor. I'm sorry but I like to feel like an adult when sitting on furniture. Finally I narrowed the choices (not that there were many for me) down to some beautiful robins egg blue suede furniture and the same color in leather. As you can see I ended up with leather. It is that soft kind of leather that you sink into and I can touch the floor when I sit.

What is the problem? Well, the leather makes the room feel a bit cold. Our heater works fine so not cold in temperature but not cozy like I want it to. White walls, beige trim, beige carpet, brown brick and various side tables in dark oak, and white. Do you see my problem yet? It is a good problem to have because this means I need to go shopping for some pillows and throws and maybe even a big rug. I found these really great pillows that will get me through Christmas and winter when I decorate using white, gold and a touch of lime green.

The pillow above was my very favorite. The only problem was I only found one like it. My friend Sarah and I found it at Ross. No problem we thought we would just check the other Ross stores around and about. She went to 5 or 6 in the Fort Worth area and one in Abilene, I went to Wichita Falls, Abilene, and San Angelo, but none turned up like it.

This was sad but not the end of the world because I can just mix several white and off white pillows of various textures and that will work too. I found these sparkly ones to use at Christmas time.
It would have been so nice to find more of the pretty one with ribbon roses. It was so soft and touchable and girly. Oh well . . .

I was sad but moved on. Then we found this pretty tan and blue one. It was perfect for summer and into fall. But guess what? We could only find one? I am starting to take it personal this time. My hubby really liked this one and it mixed with the other white and cream pillows. One just wasn't enough. What to do?

I ended up buying it just because I couldn't bear to leave it at the store all alone.

I found this pretty embroidered satin pillow that mixed beautifully with my others . . .

But I just couldn't get this one out of my sights. It was so pretty and soft.

The white and cream pillows are beautiful but this room is really needing some punches of color. I plan to add pink and maybe some lime green to the room in spring. But the room still needs something now. I would love to find some beautiful colorful throws into the room but nothing has really looked right. Right now it looks a bit too modern for me. Pretty, but I tend to go more towards vintage florals. What have I done? I am starting to wonder if I should have just recovered the old furniture.

Maybe some floral pillows would make me happy. Now I don't know. Do you ever do this? Think you know what you want but instead end up with something different? I know it will work out it just takes me a while to find what I want sometimes. I know there are some beautiful fabrics out that include this color but most of them include brown. I like to wear brown, I like brown wood tables, even my brown brick is OK but that color with my leather still leaves me a bit cold. I am just not into modern I guess. Of course when I add all my pretty flowers and other accessories I know that will help

And my chair is so comfy . . .

This is his chair. Not my favorite but I can live with it. He was so sweet to offer to change but I know he really loves it. Hmmmmmm, maybe I should do leopard pillows. . . . . I know that would not lead where I want it to either. Where can I find some beautiful vintage floral fabrics that will go with this furniture and have enough for several pillows and not break the budget?

I guess I will be doing more shopping . . .

Golden Autumn Light

There was a cacophony outside so I rushed out to see what in the world would make so much noise. It wasn't a bad sound just loud. The neighbors lawn was covered with 100's of crows.

It was such a strange sight because they weren't in the trees but down on the lawn happily pecking away at whatever treat they had found.

It was after taking in this sight that I began to realize what a beautiful afternoon we had.

Everything was being bathed in golden autumn light.

The light shining through the trees was so beautiful.

And all the beautiful leaves were turning such delightful colors.

Even the leaves that are green are glorious when bathed in the golden light

Seeing all of this beauty really got me thinking.

About how when we ask . . .

God will bathe us in His light

It doesn't matter what darkness we are in . . .

All we have to do is ask, and He will take all the pieces of our life . . .

Every part no matter how drab or colorful it is . . .

And He will begin to clean and heal us

And soon our life will begin to take on beauty

And we will be able to share what He did for us when we see dark places in others.

We will be able to bring the light of His glory all around us

He can do the same in your life too . . .

He can change your dark places into light. You just have to ask

Last Fall Fling

I took a little walk through my garden the other day before our first frost and I am so glad. My garden had so many beautiful sights to offer. My roses were showing their last beautiful splendor of the season . . .

My trees were just beginning to show theirs . . .

There was almost a dreamy quality to that evening as I walked . . .

My kitty babette' joined me on this walk . . .

After a little peek in the house that is . . .

My mums are at their most gorgeous . . .

Sahara decided to join in our walk too . . .

Along the way we saw Simba playing in the grass . . .

Bootsie was enjoying a nice spot in the shade . . .

As you can see I enjoy my kitties. I always have 14 or so around the house.

This is TJ. He is one of my older kitties.

Along the way I stopped by one of my favorite trees. I just love the way the bark curls off this tree. I never have to mulch my garden around this tree.

I love the pink edges on the petals of this beautiful rose.

This Knockout rose was a gift from one of my daughters. It always makes me smile.

This is one of our local vines that can be a bit of a weed but I like it so sometimes I let it have a spot. (shhhhhhh don't tell the other gardeners here in Seymour)

This is one of my holly trees. I have several varieties and this is my favorite.

Hope you enjoyed our little walk.

Until Next time

These Boots Are Made For Walking!
Today is the day for Deb's boot party!
We are all sharing our favorite pair of boots
Be sure to check out more of the boots at Deb's Ladybug From Texas

Here they are! Yes, I know they don't look very Texas. Can you imagine me kicking around the rain in Paris, France? Or Maybe splashing around the puddles in New York City? I could while away the day in these on the moors of Scotland. I could look stylish in the fog of London. Or maybe I could walk along the harbor in some exotic port city? Well, I can too but what I actually use them for is mucking around my critter pens when it is wet. Not very romantic but very practical. But no one says I can't look good while doing it!
